Who am I?

Greetings. I'm Wanda Thomas Flesher in the great state of Washington, transplanted from Ohio. And I'm blooming where I'm planted. I've been tracing my roots, off and on, since I was a kid. It was called doing genealogy then. Now it's called Family History, but it's all the same. Last year, I became the matriarch of our family, when my mother passed away. Her two sisters died within two months of her death, and then all that generation was gone. It was quite a shock to realize that I am now the older generation. It happened so quickly, the years passing and all. Wow! I sound ancient. I'm convinced. Are you?

I am a grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, and what joys they are! More branches on our family tree. My husband and I have three children, a boy and two girls. For the most part, I have been a stay-at-home mom. My greatest achievement has been to raise my children to be upright before the Lord, and to be productive members of society.

Who is my family?

The following are my main family lines:

Thomas, Riddell, Riddle, Wagers, Winkler, Finney, Boian, Bowen, Kerby, Rice, Barbary, Bryant, Hyatt, Hiatt, Smith, Dillingham, Park, Parks, Parke, Rucker, Rawlins, Lewis, Eubanks, Dudley, Logdson. The Thomas' were in Washington Co., Va. in the early 1800's.

Thomas

The Thomas' were in Washington Co. Va. in the early 1800's. They moved to Clairborne Co. Tn., and then to Estill Co. Ky. before 1860. A very large family, many stayed there. Other of the children migrated to Texas, on to Missouri; Oklahoma, and.

Riddle & Hyatt

The Riddle's and Hyatt's were in the N.Carolinas before settling in Estill Co.Ky. The Hyatt's were Quakers, and moved about between Virginia and North Carolina. Robert Riddle and Mary Hyatt were married in Stokes Co. N.C. in 1799. The story is told that Robert (not a Quaker) disired the hand of Mary. Her parents objected, packed up and left the area. Robert sold all his possessions, and overtook them. There are a few holes in this story, but much of it is true. and what a happy ending! Mary is credited with being the daughter of John. This is disputed however. Some say she is the daughter of John's brother William. A large volume on the Hyatt family was printed in the 1950's, and is on microfilm at LDS branch libraries. Extensive volumes on this family are in the works by Larry and Tawnya Anderson of Omaha, NE.

Wagers

The Wagers and Wages Family, tradition says, migrated by ship from Alsace Lorraine, France. It was actually two brothers, supposedly running away from home, Frances Xavior and William. The story goes that the Logsdon family was on the same boat. Frances (Frank), and Patience Logsdon met there and were latter married, settling in Estill Co. Ky.

Winkler

Winkler Family: They have been traced to Prussia - Germany. Again, this family settled in Estill Co. Ky. in the 1800's.

Finney

The Finney family was from Virginia before going to Estill Co. Ky. John Finney, my gr gr grandfather, was said to be tall and very dark skinned. Some claim he was an Indian. I have not substantiated that claim. His daughter, my gr grandmother, was named Sarah Miller Finney. I had an aunt (her granddaughter) who was Maud Miller Thomas. Surely there are Millers related to this family, but I haven't found them yet.

Boian & Bowen

Our Boian family name is rather unique. Any Bowen
