The world's largest gourd show was held at MT Gilead, Ohio. The show in it's 37th year was held the first weekend in October. It included gourd exhibits, craft demonstrations, fresh & dried gourds, crafted gourds and gourd craft supplies. There was a Gourd Theater with lectures and videos by members to share their knowledge with others.
The American Gourd Society publishes a quarterly magazine, The Gourd, with news on gourd events, articles on gardening, craft tips, and more. Membership is $10 per year (U.S), $18 (foreign memberships). Send check or money order to:

CRAFT

HAT COMPETITION

There were 100 categories of exhibits for adults to enter and 24 for kids in 3 different buildings.
WINNERS

WOMEN'S HAT WINNER: And the winner of the women's hat contest...... our own btraffis@aol.com. Note the neon green name tag on Brenda (gourd geek) that was worn by cybergourders at show in order to recognize each other.
LONGEST GOURD: Here is a post show picture of the second place 73 and 1/8 " long handled dipper gourd(first prize was 77") back by the vine from whence it sprung. It has been green peeled to hasten drying.
MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

For relativity, the black spot between the two gourds is Mark's baseball cap.

This is Mark's wife's second prize winning entry in the Red and Black category.
VENDORS OF ALL KINDS

A trailer was stuffed with uncleaned gourds.
When they opened the back door, they came out in an avalanche that was actually quite loud.

Right Photo: This trailer was refilled at least once.
