2008 Award Winners

The Eastern Washington Chapter of the Academy of Certified Hazardous Materials Managers is please to announce the winners of its 2008 Hazardous Materials Management awards:

Hazardous Materials Manager of Year:  This award, sponsored by Washington River Protection Solutions, was awarded to Russ Johnson, Fluor Hanford, for his work in identifying a regulatory compliance issue and leading a large team in its resolution.

Excellence in Hazardous Materials Management:  This award, sponsored by Washington River Protection Solutions, was awarded to the PNNL ChemAgain program.  This program matches surplus chemicals with users and prevents having to send these chemicals to a disposal site.

Hazardous Material Identification and Control Research: This award, sponsored by CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation Company, was awarded to the PFP Filter Room Evaluation Project for research and implementation of alternative testing methods for air ventilation systems.

Meritorious Achievement: This award, sponsored by CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation Company, was awarded to Rampur Viswanath, Washington River Protection Solutions, for his dedication to the Chapter and helping the Chapter become more successful.

Outstanding Service Award: Andrea Prignano, CH2MHILL, was selected to receive this award in recognition to all her efforts on behalf of the Chapter.

President’s Awards:   Roni Swan, East Tennessee Materials and Engineering Corporation, was selected to receive this award for her aid to the Chapter President and her help on behalf of the Chapter.

In addition, the chapter is please to announce that Clarissa Bulosan, a junior in the Environmental Geological Sciences program at Central Washington University, will receive the 2008 college scholarship.

The awards will be presented at the chapter’s annual awards banquet on December 4th

In addition, the Eastern Washington Chapter wishes to thank Washington River Protection Solutions and CH2MHILL Plateau Remediation Company for sponsorship of these awards. The Chapter also thanks EnergySolutions for sponsoring the annual college scholarship.

Meet the EWC 2008 Board
For 2008, Mark Riess will advance to President and Andrea Prignano to Immediate Past President. Jeannette Hyatt will be Vice President and Mark Kerns will be Treasurer. Pat Wicks and Tom Ashley will both share the position of chapter secretary.

EWC/ACHMM members and friends - in addition to our own Holiday event on December 4th, we have been invited to attend the NMA Christmas Party and fund-raiser this Holiday season at 5:00 PM, Wednesday, December 10, 2008

Join the Mid-Columbia Leadership Development Association NMA Chapter 395, Energy Northwest NMA Chapter 902, American Society for Quality Columbia Basin Section 614, and other professional organizations for a joint meeting at the Richland Red Lion Hotel. You are cordially invited to join us at 5:00 PM on December 10th for a lively holiday get-together with an opportunity to network and meet new people or renew past acquaintances with the members of various professional organizations that will be in attendance. Special entertainment will be provided for your listening pleasure as you browse through the many Silent Auction* items available. There may even be a Santa Sighting, and for a small donation, he and the Mrs. will pose for pictures with you. This is a great opportunity to shop for your friends, co-workers, and family members. The buffet line for dinner will open at 6:30 p.m. (check out the sumptuous menu below). Following dinner, there will be a “live” auction of some of the larger donated items.* There will be a gift exchange...bring a gift (10 to 20 dollars) and share with your table...you get to make up your own rules. Should be a hoot.
