Examples of Correct Gate Passage next, back one page, or page 1
A gate has been passed correctly when both the competitors’ ski tips and both feet have passed across the gate line. (661.4.1) This rule applies whether a competitor has to climb back up into a gate, or crosses the gate line from another direction. There is no rule that requires a competitor to pass the gates in an assigned order. There is no designated sequence. Any order is valid, provided all the gate lines are correctly passed before the finish line is crossed. There is only one line that describes the shortest path from start to finish. It is most likely to be the fastest line. Only one line is shortest; only one is the fastest; but there are many that are legal.
A competitor himself, in the case of an error or a fall, can turn to the gate judge and question him. The gate judge, where possible, informs a competitor if he has committed a fault that would lead to disqualification. (663.1) In either case with a clear, decisive voice, the gate judge answers the competitor’s question or informs him with one of the following words: (663.2) "Go!"... ; [or] "Back!"
There is no
specified order, or direction, for the ski tips and boots to pass the gate line.
The only requirement is that both ski tips, and both boots, pass over the gate
line. The competitor may pass through from either direction, or backward
